Via Horquilla, Palos Verdes Estates, CA

Situated on a steep site in the city of Palos Verdes Estates above the golf course, this residence embodies the ‘Mediterranean’ style that the Art Jury in this exquisite community requires and enforces.  The orientation of the lot and the views makes so the home faces directly north with an extensive view from the famed ‘pearl necklace’ coastal view to the lights of downtown Los Angeles and the mountains beyond to the east.  By virtue of the view facing north and the lot being linear, the challenge was addressing natural light for every room.  Therefore, the home was designed as a basically linear element with outdoor spaces carved out in order to bring light to every room in the house. Creative ways to bring in light as well as orient all rooms to the view were the considerations that brought a sense of place to this home and its spectacular site.  A truly magical place in one of Southern California’s greatest communities, with one of Southern California’s finest families as the home owners was created in this project.
